Is this stupid?

Okay,
Just got off the phone with Roses Run Country Club. Jill was super sweet and funny. They are willing to charge us the same price for family style as they would for a buffet (which is awesome!). They are also willing to throw in the staff to serve hot apps for no additional charge. I absolutely love their can do attitude (she actually said, if there is anything we want that is not on their menu, they are more than willing to do it).

So, is it stupid that I am so much more excited about having the wedding at a country club rather than a party center?

It shouldn't make a difference if the the location is beautiful and the menu is right, but something about "party center" provokes this visceral yuck reaction. I already weeded out locations that actually say party center in their names, but do you think I am making a mistake? Are party centers better able to provide the best service? Would the event run more smoothly? Is it weird to ask to vet your event staff before the actual day of?

Okay, here are the pictures from Roses Run. They have a large vaulted ceiling room downstairs that can do 300 people. Upstairs there are two rooms that hold about 150 people each. She was saying that they typically do receptions downstairs and then the ceremony upstairs for winter weddings or outside by the lake for the rest of the year.

  1. Roses Run sounds and looks great! And look at you, Little Miss Negotiator!! :) Way to go!
It's funny that you mention "Party Center" because in all my event experience, I've never heard that used as a common term (granted nerdy computer science events are drastically different than weddings).
When selecting a venue, definitely go with your gut feel on the factors (location, price, setting, capacity, flexibility, etc) and don't worry about the title.
Oh - and good staff is soooo key!!! And that lady's can do attitude sounds great. Personally - I almost always work with local caterers with charm vs. corporate sellouts like Wolfgang Puck.

  2. Comments from Patty:

Roses Run...a country club? Well loosely speaking. It is a public course/club. NO memberships to speak of. The "clubhouse" was once a horse stable. Of course there is no way to tell that from the inside. We have not seen the party rooms. We ate dinner there once. It was good. The "lake" is more of a big pond (Tell Steve about the size of Aunt Jeri's). There is a fountain in it. There are houses and condos on the other side of it. Jim says it is on hole one.
If you actually want a Country Club, Jim's boss said he can get us in just about anywhere. My brother belongs to Rosemont and Uncle Jim; Portage CC.

The convenience of Roses Run can't be beat! You can dress here if you want or the attendants can all meet here, whatever. There is still the offer for brunch here on Monday. Or even Sat before.
