Wedding Dress Update (based on your feedback)

Hey,
Great comments so far. I wanted to give more details on the ones that everyone like and even found more pictures. (If you click on these pics they get much bigger)

#32 has been the run away favorite so far. The dress is by Jim Hjelm

(Ivory Silk Organza trumpet gown, sleeveless Alencon lace empire bodice accented with Ivory satin ribbon, V-neckline, 2 tiered lace accented skirt, low open V-back, chapel train)

I still like the dress a lot, but after seeing the back I am worried that we may have some foundation garment challenges.

Price $3,000-#5,000 (yikes)

#3 is Anne Barge her La Fleur collection, but of course I can't find the dress on her site anymore

Price $3,000-$5,000(yikes, but I'm sure I can find a knockoff for cheaper)

#28 is Demetrios from the Ultra Sophisticates collection

(
Sleeveless beaded V-neck tulle with empire bodice. Attached train.) There was only one additional picture of the dress

Price not given

#15 is Mori Lee by Madeline Gardner

(Delicate chiffon with lace.
Lace appliqués decorate the sheer halter bodice and meets the center-shirred midriff. Corset tie-back on the A-line skirt with chapel length train. Available in 3 Lengths: 55", 58", 61" Colors Available: White/Silver, Ivory/Silver) Here is a picture of the front and a picture of the back.

Price $600 or less

#17 is from Eden Bridals

(Matte Luxury Crepe gown features a bodice of Lace and Beading. Open Lace and Beading embellish the empire waist and side slits on the front and back of the A-Line skirt. The back is open leading to a Chapel length Train.)

I found a picture of the detail and the back.

Price $600 or less

Is this stupid?

Okay,
Just got off the phone with Roses Run Country Club. Jill was super sweet and funny. They are willing to charge us the same price for family style as they would for a buffet (which is awesome!). They are also willing to throw in the staff to serve hot apps for no additional charge. I absolutely love their can do attitude (she actually said, if there is anything we want that is not on their menu, they are more than willing to do it).

So, is it stupid that I am so much more excited about having the wedding at a country club rather than a party center?

It shouldn't make a difference if the the location is beautiful and the menu is right, but something about "party center" provokes this visceral yuck reaction. I already weeded out locations that actually say party center in their names, but do you think I am making a mistake? Are party centers better able to provide the best service? Would the event run more smoothly? Is it weird to ask to vet your event staff before the actual day of?

Okay, here are the pictures from Roses Run. They have a large vaulted ceiling room downstairs that can do 300 people. Upstairs there are two rooms that hold about 150 people each. She was saying that they typically do receptions downstairs and then the ceremony upstairs for winter weddings or outside by the lake for the rest of the year.

Wedding this Weekend

So, I've been picking up catering jobs while I hunt for a "real" job and this weekend I worked at a wedding that was amazing (read similar to what I was thinking of for ours).

Location: A historic SF building with

1. Large main room
2. Medium size room with a bar
3. (2) small bride and groom's rooms

First the front half of the main room was set with rows of dark bamboo chairs with black cushions.

The back of the room was set with some of the round tables for the reception and then those tables were hidden by pipe and drape during the ceremony. The couple got married in front of a fireplace (lit with candles) and draped with white flowers. There were candles throughout the entire room.

The bar room was set up with a couple of small corner tables and then some tall cocktail tables. Their colors were deep blue and silver with white and red flowers. I didn't like the red flowers because it made it feel a little too state dept., but they had terrific table linens

The linens were a blue on blue stripe. It wasn't busy, but added great texture and made everything very classy. While the ceremony was in progress, the catering team set up cheese plates and baskets of bread on the small corner tables in the bar. As soon as the ceremony finished, the guest were let into the bar room for a cocktail hour. Server passed hot apps, while the rest of the staff flipped the ceremony room for the reception.

All of the reception tables had the same table linens, silver napkins, and pretty white floral centerpieces and tall white votive candles.

Engagement Photo

Hey Everyone,
Sorry I haven't posted in forever. I got laid off just before New Year's, so my wedding planning is kind of on hold until I sort out this job mess, but I thought you might like this. Here is the photo that was taken less than 10 seconds after we got engaged. This crazy woman came racing up to us to ask if we got engaged (which instantly dried any tears I may or may not have been about to shed) and then asked if we had our phones to take a picture. I'm so glad she did because we were way to giddy to remember something as silly as capturing the moment.

Happy New Year to everyone and I'll get back in gear soon, I promise!
